Protect your pooch

A common case we have been experiencing in clinic is heartworm positive dogs.

Heartworm is contracted through mosquitoes and it is very easy to prevent by either giving a tablet, spot-on treatment, or injection once a month, every three months or annually depending on the type of prevention your choose to give.

Early symptoms of heartworm in dogs are:

  • Mild persistent cough
  • Reluctance to exercise
  • Fatigue after moderate exercise
  • Decreased appetite
  • Weight loss

If left untreated, heartworm can cause heart failure and result in death. Heartworm can be detected by performing a simple 10 minute blood test in clinic.
